Welcome to the home page of JuAikioSho International.

JuAikioSho is a Mixed  Martial Art  that combines  Jujitsu,  Aikido and Shotokan.

First lets segment the various styles the make up JuAikioSho.

Jujitsu.

Word meaning : "way of yielding"

Jujitsu was first developed by the Samurai but no one person is responsible for its creation.   Today there are many  Jujitsu styles all  consisting of grappling and striking techniques.  (i.e.throwing, trapping, joint locks/ holds, disengagements, striking, and kicking).

These techniques were developed around the principle of using an attacker's energy against him, rather than by directly opposing it.
The defender's own body is positioned so as to take optimal advantage of the attacker's weaknesses while simultaneously presenting few openings or weaknesses of its own.  Movements tend to capitalize on an attacker's momentum and openings in order to place a joint in a compromised position or to break their balance as preparation for a take-down or throw.

Aikido.

Word Meaning : "the Way of harmonious or balanced spirit."

Aikido was created by Morihei Ueshiba  referred to by some Aikido practitioners as "Great Teacher."  Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on.

Though similar to Jujitsu the movements in Aikido try to move with the attacker until the attacker allows there own movements to create a point of unbalance. This requires very little physical energy, as the Aikido practitioner "leads" the attacker's momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are then completed with various throws or joint locks.

Shotokan.

Word Meaning : " House of pine waves"

Shotokan-ryu was founded by Gichin Funakoshi in 1936.  Shotokan is a hard style that teaches strong basic techniques and stances.  Strength and power are the main focus instead of slower, more flowing motions. Techniques are characterized by deep, long stances that provide stability, enable powerful movements, and strengthen the legs. The main point of this art is strength.  Strength of body and movements, where other arts focus on soft flowing movements Shotokan strives to develop an overwhelming force meant to beat down and wear out ones attacker.

Elements from all three of the above arts are studied in JuAikioSho.  The arts of  Jujitsu, Aikido and Shotokan are all well known styles accepted in the Martial Arts community. Many schools of thought however believe that combining arts is nothing more then diluting what they call "TRUE"  styles. This type of ridged thinking is more a means to control the future of martial arts as a whole then any real fear of losing the identity of any one style.

The history of Martial arts with very few exceptions is a mingling of knowledge from many styles throughout the ages. All but a few of todays martial arts styles are derived from past styles and the few that do not are a combination of more then one style. The fact is the very basis of martial arts has been to learn, adapt and formulate new styles to a given system. Instructors learn there style and change certain aspects or focus on others and the style that they study is stamped with there own brand of individuality.

Some changes that occur in a style is slight and so the name is slightly altered to reflect the change of focus. Larger changes branch sharply enough from the parent style that renaming the style is the best or most honest choice. However when one  looks at the history of Martial Arts it should be obvious that it has followed a diverse and mingled path. The future of Martial Arts is [as always] changing.Arts are being combined, altered and changed and new arts are forming now more then ever.

With the advent of Mixed Martial arts these changes are harder to pin down and in some cases all but impossible to even identify.   Mixed Martial arts is changing the face of Martial Arts in America and by doing so is revitalizing the art into a sport.  Many will see this as a good thing, many more as a bad one. That debate will be a long and bitter conversation left to those who would rather bicker and argue rather then change and adapt.

JuAikiSho was created to bridge the gap of hard and soft styles, to keep a  fighting style that could transition from stand up to ground and from a forceful attack to a graceful defense. This is done by shortening the flow of the movements into small wave like circles that can, when needed, become a hard unbreakable line or one that absorbs and redirects energy focused against it.  The basis of the art is conservation of energy while at the same time keeping the ability to absorb, redirect and expel that same energy as needed.

The major areas of focus  is that of anatomy/physiology and body mechanics. This study of why the body moves and how it moves or does not move is paramount for individual safety and personal growth. This study is not missing in other arts but one must attain high levels in a given style in order to learn.

JuAikioSho teaches these things first so that a student can know there own strengths and limitations, as well as those of there opponents. Knowing how and why the body moves also promotes safety for students.  In this way students know exactly the repercussions of any given action and so must accept responsibility of those actions.

JuAikioSho strives not only to teach technique, but also to build character through inner-strength, courage,  respect  and discipline.
